Since more than 30 years the indigenous tribes Macuxi, Wapixana, Ingarikó, Taurepang und Patamona keep fighting for a landtitle to their territory, which covers some 1.6 million hectars. This area in the northern part of the Brazilian State of Roraima is called Raposa/Serra do Sol (see map). For its full recognition (homologation) it only takes the signature of the president.
To make sure it is not a lacking pen preventing the signature, the indians' organisation CIR asked the international supporter community to send pens or other writing utilities to the country's president. This call for action so far is followed by organisations in the US and in Germany.
Time is pressing: A group of people opposing the landright process and idea about indians owning land have mobilized a lot in the last weeks and gained some attention against the indigenous peoples' struggle - partly proposing solutions that contradict the country's own constitution.
